WTIX Sing-a-Long Survey for August 8, 1964
There are 50 songs on this survey during the height of the British (Music) Invasion of America. But in New Orleans, it's almost like it never happened.
Although the Beatles appear at #11 with A Hard Day's Night and I Should Have Known Better, this was just over a month before their
September 16, 1964 concert at City Park in New Orleans. And local artists are well represented: Eddie Powers is at #4 with I'll Dream No More;
The Dixie Cups are at #9; Johnny Rivers from nearby Baton Rouge is at #27; and Bourbon Street trumpeter Al Hirt shows up at #25. Maybe the British remembered their 1814
visit and that cannonball-firing alligator!
